The Room · Tallahassee
Built to be
walked.
The showroom · honeycomb light, glass cases, the mosaic floor
Gary built Cloud Smoke Shop to be the shop he'd want to stand in. Not a counter with a wall of product behind it — a room. He poured a custom mosaic floor in red, blue and black, hung a honeycomb ceiling over glass cases, and stocked the range the way a curator would: fewer, better, chosen.
Then Tallahassee did the rest. Students from FSU, FAMU and TCC. Service-industry regulars off a late shift. People who knew what they wanted and expected the store to be a level above the strip-mall norm — without the store ever being loud about it. Two thousand four hundred five-star reviews later, the reputation speaks for itself.
The philosophy is Gary's, stated once and then dropped: it doesn't need to show off. It just shows up — open till 2 most nights, 3 on weekends, with a standing 10% for every student in town.
The floor
The detail no competitor can copy.
The floor is the shop's signature — poured resin, red and blue and black, glossy under the case lights. It's why the whole site is built on a photograph of it. Walk the room and you walk the floor; there isn't another one like it in the city.
